Bangkok, 29 June 2026 – The AI Governance Practice Center (AIGPC), under the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), officially launched AI Governance Week 2026 (AIGW 2026), ending with the evening IPAP and AIGC Expert Fellow Meeting 3/2026, held at the Phayathai 2 Room, Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai, Bangkok, capping off Day 1 of the AIGPC Annual Conference 2026 under the theme "Connecting the Right Dots of Ethical AI & Governance."

The evening opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Sak Segkhoonthod, Senior Expert Consultant in Digital Transformation and AI Governance at ETDA, who shared AIGPC's vision for building a robust and collaborative AI governance ecosystem in Thailand and the region. Representatives from AIGW 2026's co-hosting partners — Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Tilleke & Gibbins International — took the stage to share perspectives on their collaboration with ETDA and their outlook on the future of responsible AI development.

A highlight of the evening was a special address by Mr. Davor Olric, the Chief Operating Officer of International Research Centre On Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), Slovenia, who introduced the origins, mission, and future direction of UNESCO Category 2 Centers, offering valuable context for AIGPC's own ongoing efforts toward Category 2 Center status. This also paves the way for future collaboration between AIGPC and IRCAI, as the two organizations aim to have the Memorandum of Understanding officially signed in the near future.

The programme also welcomed members of AIGPC's International Policy Advisory Panel (IPAP), Dr. Nawanan Theera-Ampornpunt and Dr. Rom Hiranpruk, alongside AIGPC Expert Fellows: Asst. Prof. Dr. Poomsiri Dumrongvute, Piyalitt Ittichaiwong, M.D., MSc., and Dr. Sarawoot Kongyoung, who reflected on their research contributions to AI ethics and governance and shared impressions of the day's proceedings.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Mr. Toru Kajiwara, Minister and Chief of the Economic Section at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Dr. Chaichana Mitrpant, Executive Director of ETDA; Ms. Rojana Lamlert, Director of AIGPC; and Prof. Dr. Urs Gasser, IPAP Chairperson of AIGPC and Dean of the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology.

The evening concluded with a networking reception and cocktail dinner, providing attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore future collaborations in responsible AI — setting a warm and collaborative tone for the remainder of AI Governance Week 2026.
